Ways to Welcome New Members

Becoming a part of a small group is hard to do sometimes, especially if the group is already established. Here are some ways to help welcome new members:

  1. Dinner Together - As the group leader, it is important for you to get to know new members. Invite the new member out to dinner or over to your house for dinner. This will allow you to get to know them better and help them feel more comfortable with you. You could also invite one or two core members to join you, just make sure the focus stays on getting to know the new member.
  2. Adopt a Member - Every time a new person joins your group have an exsisting core member adopt them. Their goal would be to help make the new member fit in by: sitting with them for a few weeks in meetings and during Church services, introducing them to others, getting together with them outside of meetings to get to know them better, and praying for them.
  3. Wear Name Tags - For the first few weeks have everyone wear name tags so they can start to put names and faces together.
  4. Say " Thanks For Coming" - Send a card to the new member/visitor thanking them for joining/visiting your group. Make sure they receive the card sometime during the week following the meeting.
